16th Century

First recorded evidence of Curling being played in Scotland and the Netherlands

1838

Grand Caledonian Curling Club established in Scotland. First Rules of Curling are drawn up.

1843

Grand Caledonian Curling Club becomes the Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC)

1924

Curling is played at the 1st Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix

1959

Scotch Cup is launched between Scotland and Canada

1960s

USA, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, France and Germany start to compete in the Scotch Cup.

1966

International Curling Federation (ICF) officially established.

1968

Air Canada Silver Broom replaces the Scotch Cup.

1975

First World Junior Men's Curling Championship

1979

First World Ladies Curling Championship

1982

ICF becomes an independent entity

1988

First World Junior Women's Curling Championship

1989

World Curling Championships and World Junior Curling Championships established (Men's & Women's)

1991

The ICF becomes the World Curling Federation (WCF)

1998

Curling included in the programme of the Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan

2002

First World Wheelchair Curling Championship
First World Senior Championships
First Continental Cup

2003

Curling part of World University Winter Games and Asian Winter Games for the first time

2005

World Mens and Womens Curling Championships separated into two events again
Curling included in European Youth Olympic Festival programme

2006

Wheelchair Curling included in the programme of the Paralympic Winter Games, Turin, Italy

2007

First World Curling Championship staged in Asia

2008

First World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship

2010

The World Curling Federation becomes the first Olympic Winter Sport federation to elect a woman as President (Kate Caithness)
