Pacific Curling Championships 2002

Queenstown, New Zealand, November 4-10 2002

Rules

1. World Curling Federation (WCF) rules apply, unless otherwise indicted below.
    
2. The Women (5 teams) will play a double round-robin. At the end of the round-robin series there must be a clear ranking from 1 to 4. If tie-break games or stones are required to determine this ranking, the WCF (Rules of Competition 14-c) and the tie-breaking charts (shown in the WCF Rules of Play and Competition booklet) will be used. In the semi-final games the team ranked number 1 will play against the team ranked number 4, and the team ranked number 2 will play against the team ranked number 3. The winners of the semi-final games will play in the Gold / Silver medal game. The losers of the semi-final games will play in the Bronze medal game. The team winning the Gold medal will qualify for the 2003 World Curling Championship.
    
3. The Men (6 teams) will play a double round-robin. At the end of the round-robin series there must be a clear ranking from 1 to 4. If tie-break games or stones are required to determine this ranking, the WCF (Rules of Competition 14-c) and the tie-breaking charts (shown in the WCF Rules of Play and Competition booklet) will be used. In the semi-final games the team ranked number 1 will play against the team ranked number 4, and the team ranked number 2 will play against the team ranked number 3. The winners of the semi-final games will play in the Gold / Silver medal game. The losers of the semi-final games will play in the Bronze medal game. The team winning the Gold medal will qualify for the 2003 World Curling Championship.
    
4. All games will be ten (10) ends, with extra end(s) to break tied games.
    
5. There will be a ten minute practice for each team before each round-robin game. The practice starts 30 minutes before the scheduled game time.
    
6. Team with last stone at the first end will practice first, followed by the second team’s practice, the ice will then be cleaned, and the game will start at the time shown on the schedule.
    
7. NOTE - '*' Indicates last stone in the first end (since each team will play each opponent twice, each team will be given last stone in the first end in one of the two games that they play against each other).
    
8. First named team in each draw plays stones with dark coloured handles, and should wear dark coloured upper playing garments.
    
9. The Chief Umpire will determine the schedule and ice for any necessary tie-break games as soon as the number of games required and the opponents have been determined. The ice for the semi-finals will also be determined by the Chief Umpire.
