World Junior Curling Championships 2002

Women's tournament, Draw 2

First win in a decade for Italy

For the first time since 1991 a Italian women's team won a game in the World Junior's. In the second draw of the tournament Italy defeated Scotland with 9 - 5. Diana Gaspari's team played aggresively and lead the game all the way through but Diana still needed to make a double coming home to win.

The game was decided in the 8th end when a double by Kelly Wood removed the Scottish second instead of the Italian shot (click to see a picture). The result? 2-7 instead of 4-5.

The last time Italy won a game in the WJCC was in 1991 when Daniela Zandegiagomo's team won over Germany with 14-11.

After two draws there are four undefeated teams, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA.

The stone that decided the game between Scotland and Italy. Kelly Wood tries the double (or even the triple) for at least two points but takes it thin and rolls off. Italy steals two.

The Japanese had a lot to discuss during the game against Sweden, unfortunately it didn't help, the game ending 1-9 for the Japanese.
