Ford World Curling Championships 2002

Women's tournament, Draw 7

Lucky break?

Maybe Colleen Jones received the lucky break she so desperately needs in these championships Tuesday night. Canada defeated Russia in an extra end with 8-7 while Sweden surprisingly lost against Germany 4-7, Denmark lost to Norway 5 - 9 and Switzerland lost to USA 6-7. This means that Canada is only one game out of the playoffs. There are two problems though, first, she needs help, Canada has to meet USA and Korea, neither team above them in the standings, so what they really need is that Sweden loses another game. Denmark and Russia meets in the last game which will send one of them to four losses. Secondly and most importantly, Colleen currently don't play like a world champion, it's looks a bit shaky.

This said however, if a quality team is struggling but gets in to the playoffs, anything can happen. In that case Colleen will probably start playing at the top of her game, it happens a lot of times.

Scotland won a take-out battle against Korea with 5-4 and Jackie Lockhart have yet to miss a game-winning stone. This time she had to draw to the four-feet circle to win and did so.

Norway and Scotland is sharing the lead with 6-1 but meets tomorrow afternoon in the 8th draw, the winner of that game will have secured a playoff spot.
