Ford World Curling Championships 2002

Men's tournament, Draw 9

No drama for Norway, Scotland wins round-robin

The only drama in the final draw of the men's round-robin was the unlikely event whether Austria would be able to beat Norway. It took about 40 minutes, then Norway lead with 5-1 against Austria and any remaining hope for a tie-breaker for Finland, Switzerland and Denmark was gone. Norway then cruised on to an easy 11-3 victory after six ends.

Finland had no problems to win against USA 7-1 and Switzerland won 11-3 against Japan. Finland won four of their five last games and could've been dangerous in a play-off if the team had reached it. They've been one of the best teams out there the last two days. Denmark beat Sweden 8-4.

Finally Canada played Scotland for the win of the round-robin. With an excellent final shot of the game, a double raise for a deuce by Warwick Smith, Scotland won 6-5.

Friday is free for the men but they'll resume play on Saturday with the semifinals between Scotland vs Norway and USA vs Canada.
